How To Apply For A Driver’s License

Growing up is an exciting time for us all, as we become able to legally do things we’ve never done before, with one of the most exciting being learning how to drive! Technically, you can apply for your provisional driver’s license when you are 15 years and 9 months old, but you cannot actually start driving until you are 17 years old, or 16 if you want to ride a moped rather than a car.

Providing you are a permanent resident of Great Britain, you can go ahead and apply for your driver’s license!

1) Post Office

Your first port of call should be your local Post Office. Join the queue and ask for a UK driving licence application form.  Once you have the form you will need to fill out all the necessary sections, such as full name, date of birth, National Insurance Number, passport details and addresses you have lived at for the last 3 years.

2) Photograph

Next, you should find a photo booth, most supermarkets tend to have them now for a charge of £4-£5. Make sure your face is clear and isn’t covered by your hair, and remember: no smiling!

Make sure you attach one passport-size photo in the envelope with your application form.

3) Money

Now for the painful part. Include the application fee of £50 in the envelope along with everything else. This can either be in cash or by cheque.

4) Send it

That’s everything you need, so if you have it all together in an envelope, then you can post it to: DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD.

Now all you have to do is wait patiently for your provisional license to arrive in the post!
