Best Car Modifications 2018

Although it can be tempting to want to replace your car after you’ve racked up thousands of miles with it, especially as we enter the new year, there are plenty of things we can do to modify our current cars to improve their looks and ride. What’s more, we can improve upon our cars for a fraction of the cost of replacing them, whilst also not having to go through the rigmarole of actually purchasing a new one.

In light of this, this month, Auto Exhausts & Tyres will be offering some new ways to modify your car as we enter 2018, so you can bring your beloved, old car bang up to date.

Tyre being fitted

New Tyres

When it comes to upgrading our cars, we often neglect our tyres, partly because we tend to forget the impact they have on performance. Although many motorists think power and torque are the be-all-and-end-all of performance, without a good set of fitted tyres, there’s no way for that power to transfer to the road.

Replace Your Bushings

This can be a rather fiddly task, but replacing your car’s bushing is an excellent way to help achieve a smoother ride. Sitting between your car’s suspension and the frame, and also between the car’s chassis and the engine, bushings are essentially bearings which eliminate vibrations throughout the car. The problem is, however, that factory rubber bushings crack and wear quickly. So, to combat this, replace your standard bushings with polyurethane ones – they’ll last longer whilst minimising vibrations even better.

Car Wrapping

To immediately boost your car’s aesthetic appeal, you should certainly consider wrapping your car. It’s a great deal cheaper than getting a new paint job and it offers a great deal more versatility in terms of the look that you can actually achieve.

You can even wrap your car yourself if you’re more of a DIY motorist. However, you will certainly need a great deal of patience, an area in which to do it that is dust-free and ideally someone to help you do it. Perhaps the best thing about wrapping your car as opposed to getting a new paint job is that, whenever you like, you can simply remove the wrap and get your old colour back.

Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Another nifty way to increase your car’s performance is to upgrade the ECU. Your car’s ECU controls the fuel-air mixture in the engine, which ultimately maximises efficiency and power. However, the factory ECU settings are tuned well below your car’s potential, so with a little reprogramming, you will achieve a great deal more power and even better fuel economy.
