Fun Ways to Recycle Old Tyres

Tyres are a big problem when it comes to waste management. They have been banned from landfill for over a decade now and, as a result, finding new ways to recycle them is extremely important. It needn’t be boring, though, there are plenty of ways to make recycling old tyres fun.

Old tyres are a tough and versatile material that you can use to construct all manner of consumer goods; from children’s toys to giant works of art, you will be spoilt for choice. So, in this article, Auto Exhausts & Tyres will offer our favourite ways to recycle old tyres.

A little table

Thanks to their sturdy nature, old tyres are the perfect choice for DIY indoor and outdoor furniture. For example, with an old tyre, some rope and several pieces of wood for the legs and body, you can make a gorgeous table. Two pieces of wood will form the top and bottom of the table, while the rope will be woven round its body, forming a rustic exterior. Finally, with the legs secured, you will have a durable and good looking outdoor table.

A seesaw

Perfect for little ones, a seesaw is a quick, easy and fun way to recycle your old tyres. All you need is a tyre, a wooden board and some interesting decorations. First, cut the tyre in half, then use two wooden boards to secure the two seats to the rubber. Once you’ve added handles and some decorations, you’ve got a seesaw! Don’t get carried away, though, this won’t be suitable for adults!

Used Tyres

Doughnut seat

You don’t always have to use the exterior of a tyre, an old inner tube can make a fantastic seat! It’s really simple, too. Ensuring the tube itself is fully blown up and repaired, all you need to do is wrap it in something comfortable and eye catching – ribbon, fabric, anything you like. Once it’s finished, just put it in the living room and veg out.

Tyre dog bed

If you’ve got pets and you’re looking for a pragmatic and super simple way to recycle a tyre, why not make a dog bed. Best of all, it’s practically already made for you! All you need to do is paint it in the colour of your choice and pad it out with a pillow and a blanket and, there you have it, a dog bed! However, unless you’ve got a seriously big tyre, this bed will only really work for smaller dogs.

Tyre swing

Finally, it’s time for the classic – the tyre swing. Adventurous children and DIY parents have been recycling tyres and making these things for decades; forests, into lakes, or just in your garden – tyre swings are fun everywhere.
