How to Replace and Fit Windscreen Wipers
Many people don’t give a second thought to their windscreen wipers but they are actually an essential part of your vehicle, especially in terms of safety when driving. Not only do windscreen wipers push away the rain and snow in severe weather conditions but they also allow you to clear your view of obstructions, such as accumulated mud or bug splats when on the motorway. Without these handy little parts you wouldn’t be able to get far, even a short burst of rain would almost certainly cause you to crash, causing untold injury and damage to yourself and others. That’s why we’ve put together this short guide to help you properly replace your windscreen wipers when they become worn or damaged.

Step 1 – Analyse your wiper blade. On average a blade should last about a year before it begins to lose its effectiveness, however, you need to inspect your blades regularly for cracks. If there are any cracks or damages on the blade itself then it will need changing regardless of how often you have previously had them changed. Take measurements of the blade or note the size reference if there is one on your current blade – this will make picking up new blades quick and easy.
Step 2 – Raise the arm of your wiper blade until it clicks or locks in a position, it will usually go all the way upright at a 90° angle. You can now spin the actual blade section of the wiper to become horizontal and get a better shot at performing step 3.
Step 3 – You should now be able to reach the clip which helps attach the blade to the arm, unhook the blade from the arm and put the arm back down gently against the windscreen while you retrieve the new one. This will stop the arm from being blown into your window preventing it from being damaged.
Step 4 –Clean your windscreen and the new wiper before putting the arm back down, ensure the rubber of the blade sits neatly on your windscreen. Now you can repeat these steps for any secondary wiper, or rear windscreen wipers you may have.
An extra tip to help you avoid a common mistake is for you to ensure that your different wipers don’t require different sized blades. Not all of the wiper blades on the same car are always the same size. Windscreen wipers are an essential part of any vehicle, ensuring the safety and excellent visibility at all times.
